The Chairman of Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo state, Hon. Isaiah Adegbite, has described his alleged suspension by members of the Legislative Council as politically motivated and an attempt by usurpers to score cheap political points.
In an official statement issued on Tuesday, Adegbite said he received online reports concerning the resolution reportedly passed by some members of the council seeking to suspend him from office.
He stated that the action lacks institutional procedures and cannot be established in law, insisting that agreement by alleged councillors on a resolution does not make it lawful.
“It is unfortunate that an issue which cannot be established and lacks institutional procedures has taken a political dimension. I consider the action politically motivated and an attempt to use the instrument of the legislative arm to score cheap political points by usurpers,” he said.
“The fact that the alleged councillors have reportedly agreed on a particular resolution does not, in itself, make that resolution lawful or give it the force to alter the leadership of an elected local government administration.”
The Chairman noted that he has no personal disagreement with any member of the Legislative Council, but warned that political differences should not be converted into institutional confrontations capable of affecting the welfare and stability of the local government.
Adegbite maintained that his administration remains committed to accountability, transparency and responsible governance, adding that anyone with genuine concerns about his stewardship should channel them through appropriate legal and administrative channels.
“I therefore urge residents, political stakeholders and party members to remain calm. The situation should not be allowed to generate unnecessary tension or disrupt the normal activities of government,” he added.
He assured residents that his focus remains on delivering good governance, stressing that he will take all legitimate steps necessary to address the development.
