Efforts by the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, to stop the governorship aspiration of the Senator representing Oyo South, Senator Sharafadeen Alli on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will end in futility.
A close ally of the Senator told The Punch that the decision of the state government to list Alli’s name as those to be crowned Obas on April 3 is a clear indication that the Oyo South Senator is a formidable force whose choice as APC guber candidate will rattle Makinde and his crisis-torn PDP.
Borrowing from Shakespeare, I will say: “No amount of water in the rough, rude sea can wash the balm off from a man on whose shoulders it will please God to place the mantle of leadership of the state come next year.”
Makinde can go ahead with his coronation. By the grace of the Almighty God, the only coronation Alli will attend is the one coming on May 29, 2027, when he will, Deo Volente, be crowned the governor of Oyo State.
The right to contest for the highest office in the state in fundamental human right that is inalienable. No subterfuge or desperation can hinder or stop it.
