A memorial to mark the seventh anniversary since the death of former governor of Oyo state, Lam Adesina was held in Ibadan.
Participants at the forum expressed optimism that Nigeria can witness national rebirth if the example of his life is taken seriously.
While he lived, Lam Adeshina was a politician who rose from relative obscurity to become a leading light among progressives in the South west of Nigeria.
Between 1999 and 2003, he served as governor of Oyo state. Seven years after his death, members of his political establishment, popularly known as the Lamists, are gathering to offer prayers
His widow, Sarat, believes politicians must learn to forge alliances beyond party lines, which was the ideal her husband pursued in his lifetime.
The Lamists are a splinter group from the All Progressives Congress who joined forces with other political organisations to form the African Democratic Congress.
Earlier, in 1979, he was elected to the Federal House of Representative for Ibadan South 1 constituency under the platform of the Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN.
Born on January 20, 1939, he attended Loyola College, Ibadan, after which he proceeded to the University of Nigeria, UNN, in 1961 and in 1965 bagged BA (Hons) in History.
