The Hon. Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Barr. Mutiu Agboke has called for more women participation and active engagement in the electoral activities of the Commission.
Hon. REC stated this today 31st October at a day workshop on ” Anti – corruption and Accountability From A Gender Perspective and As A Tool for Inclusive Democratic Process”, which was organised by Nigerian Women Trust Fund in Ibadan.
Barr. Agboke noted further that, it was in line with the Commission’s core values and guiding principles to strengthen gender equality between women and men in the electoral process.
He however urged political parties to allow for a reasonable key number of women’s participation in politics and public offices, inclusive of Persons With Disability(PWD).
The Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Women Trust Fund, Mrs Mufuliat Fijabi in her remarks noted that “Anti – corruption and Accountability measures in a democratic process is an important tool used to monitor the real time productivity of public officials and institution to ensure that they are performing optimally and providing value for money in the provision of public services.”she reiterated.
Present at the occasion included, political parties and Women candidates, Women Based Organisations and representatives of Nigeria Union of Women Journalists to mention a few.
