Youths from Ikoyi-Ile in Oriire Local Government, under the aegis of Eso Youth Movement have urged Governor Seyi Makinde to grant final approval for the appointment of a new Onikoyi.
The Ikoyi-Ile youths said the process of the selection of the new monarch was completed and forwarded to the state government in June 2022.
In a letter addressed to the governor at the State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, a copy which was sent to InsideOyo.com, the group praised the administration’s infrastructural gains and record of responsiveness. They urged the governor to act on the chieftaincy recommendation which they describe as compliant with local customs and the Oyo State Chieftaincy Law.
The letter was signed by the group’s president Ajagbe Kazeem and the secretary, Saheed Kazeem.
The youths warned that the prolonged delay — now approaching four years – – has left Ikoyi land effectively without traditional leadership, undermining community cohesion and development initiatives at home and in the diaspora.
They appealed to Governor Makinde’s commitment to fairness and grassroots development, calling for a swift intervention to restore customary governance and reassure residents that the selection of the kingmakers’ candidate will be ratified.

Your Excellency,
With great respect and humility, we the undersigned write on behalf of concerned youths of Ikoyi ile, Oriire local government Area. Your Excellency Sir, please permit us to first appreciate you for the giant strides you have made in the infrastructural and economic development of our dear state. We also appreciate immensely your humility, sincerity and responsiveness in running the affairs of the state. We pray that you will continue to progress to higher height in all your life pursuit.
Your Excellency Sir, we seek your kind indulgence to remind you to grant your gracious approval to the appointment of Onikoyi of Ikoyi-Ile as forwarded by the Onikoyi kingmakers via Oriire Local Government Council since June 2022.
We believe. Your Excellency that the selection process was duly completed in accordance with the customs and traditions of Ikoyi Ile and the Oyo state chieftaincy law. The selection clearly reflected the wish of the people of Ikoyi Ile at home and in diaspora.
Your Excellency, the continue delay in the appointment of a new Onikoyi has left the people of Ikoyi land without Leadership for almost four years and this is affecting all facets of our life as a people.
We therefore appeal to your Excellency to please grant your gracious approval for the appointment of the candidate selected by the kingmakers.We believe strongly in your commitment to justice, fairness and grassroots development and we are optimistic that your swift intervention will restore hope to our people.
