Ibarapa state constituency election is a testing ground for political parties in Oyo State ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Political pundits also believed the result of today’s election in Ibarapa constituency will reveal the popularity of governor Abiola Ajimobi -led ruling party as division between the SENACO and Unity forum takes sway.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will be filling the position rendered vacant by the death of the late Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Michael Adeyemo.
insideoyo.com looks at three main contenders in today’s election and their chances at ballot:
1. Olukunle Adeyemo
A brother of the late Michael Adeyemo. He is a consensus candidate of the divided ruling APC but majorly tilted to the Ajimobi faction. Olukunle, according to Ajimobi, is a show of compensation to the family of the former Oyo Speaker.
His emergence will largely depends on party members alongside the unity forum.
2. Debo Ogundoyin
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and one of the sons of late industrialist from Eruwa, Chief Adeseun Ogundoyin. The main opposition party will use the popularity of Ogundoyin in Ibarapa to ride in today’s election.
3. Adepoju Adebodun Ademola
He is the Accord Candidate. Adepoju may get a smooth ride from the electorate in today’s election as many believed the APC unity forum is eyeing his candidacy as a fallout between it and the SENACO group.
