The George Aid Foundation, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Ibadan Jericho Metro, on Thursday carried out its monthly food distribution in Ado Quarters, Ido Local Government Area of Ibadan, reaching vulnerable households and expectant mothers in the community.
As part of the July edition of the project, food packs were presented to about 100 households, while over 30 expectant mothers at the Ado Quarters Primary Healthcare Centre also received food packs alongside birthing kits and other maternal care materials.
Speaking during the distribution, representative of the George Aid Foundation, Rotarian Kunle Aare, said the July outreach was “moved a little bit upward” to focus on expectant mothers.
He noted that the food initiative, which has run monthly in different communities for over 5 years, was designed to address hunger and malnourishment across Ibadan.
“_This project is about putting food on the table for families who need it most, and this month we decided to extend more support to pregnant women because maternal health is critical_,” Aare said.
Chairman of the community, Alhaji Adetunji Akande, said Ado Quarters covers almost six communities and that beneficiaries were carefully selected to ensure the support got to the most vulnerable.
Matron of Ado Quarters Primary Healthcare Centre, Mrs. Helen Aladetuyi, urged other well-meaning individuals and organizations to emulate the partnership between the George Aid Foundation and Rotary Club of Ibadan Jericho Metro.
President of the Rotary Club of Ibadan Jericho Metro, Rotarian Oluborode, said the inclusion of birthing kits was aimed at improving maternal and child health in the area.
According to her, “_The birthing pack is sufficient for delivery purposes and for after-birth care. We want to ensure that mothers and newborns have a safe start_.”
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Opeyemi Ayinla expressed appreciation to the George Aid Foundation and the Rotary Club for the gesture, describing it as a “spirit of giving that gives hope to mothers in the community.”
The monthly food project by the George Aid Foundation and Rotary Club of Ibadan Jericho Metro has been ongoing for five years and targets different communities across Ibadan with food support and health interventions.
