Rep. Folajimi Oyekunle Hails Consensus Emergence of House Minority Leaders

I must first commend the unrelenting effort of distinguished senator Fatai Buhari, the Senator representing Oyo North senatorial district, towards giving his constituent voice at the national assembly, also for him laying the foundation for a modern and responsive politics in Oyo North senatorial district, which he has ensured the voice of people speak louder than ever.

Over the years, Oke Ogun as a region has suffered setbacks, and it is obvious to all that, the region is quite unlucky with leaders who represent them. Thou the activities of Sen. Fatai Buhari in recent time has distinguished him to be a worthy ambassador and representative, which I wholeheartedly commend him for the giant strides to see that the Bill of Establishing The Federal University Oke Ogun become a reality and for how he has facilitated some infrastructure and ICT center across Oyo North senatorial district, I circumnavigated the whole region of Oke Ogun, and saw how some infrastructures and ICT in the region was credited to him. As it is not in my character to praise public officer’s but I see it as a necessity to give kudos to any public officer driven with the desire to redefine the narrative of our politics, which I hope he sustains such while legislating good policies that would aid the betterment of lives of his constituent.

The Oke-Ogun region of Oyo State is one of the materially richest parts of Nigeria, one that has a lot to contribute to the development of Oyo State and Nigeria but which, for many reasons has remained the most undeveloped and the most marginalized in the country.

Many in Nigeria who are familiar with Oke Ogun’s pathetic condition believe that its people are the cause of its underdevelopment as divisions among them and inability to speak with one voice. The disunity among Oke Ogun people has deprived them of so many things like Oke Ogun state. They were unable to reach a consensus and their inability to have a common ground for the location of Capital denied them to be given a state.

Due to disunity amidst the people of Oke Ogun and the crook of Political leader the region is having, has successfully made the regime of the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, hijacked and divert the institution (The Technical University) that suppose to be sited in Oke Ogun to Ibadan, despite the hues and cries of Oke Ogun people for university.

It is on the basis I urge the people of Oke Ogun, the leadership and rulership, especially the three federal lawmakers from Oke Ogun to compliment the effort of Sen. Fatai Buhari by speaking in accord and unite towards this cause of Establishing the Oke Ogun Federal University of Agriculture, to enable the bill to see the light of the day.

Conclusively, in unity lies the strength of every successful nation. The people of Oke Ogun need to be united, do away and put aside religious and political sentiment and also remove in mind the borders, and see themselves as an entity and as an indigene from a space called Oke Ogun not from Tede, Iseyin, Saki and others. As this will spur the development of the region and enable educational advancement in the region.

Adesina Julius writes from Oke Ogun, Oyo state.
