The family of the late HRH Oba Victor Sunday Olatunde Okunola JP (Oosagade I), Elegbeda of Egbeda and the first crowned king of Egbeda-Ibadan, is set to celebrate his life and legacy with a memorial lecture and dinner entertainment.
In honour of the revered monarch, a commemorative event marking his 83rd posthumous birthday will be held on September 27, 2025, within the sacred grounds of the late Elegbeda’s Palace in Egbeda-Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
This was contained in a statement by the family, signed by The Trustee of the Palace of the First Crowned King of Egbeda-Ibadan and made available to Inside Oyo on Thursday.
Oba Okunola, who passed away on May 14, 2024, is remembered for his vision and devotion to uplifting the cultural and social fabric of Egbeda-Ibadan.
During his reign, he restored dignity and pride to the town, brought peace to the land, and gave the people a renewed sense of identity and direction.
The family has expressed their commitment to upholding the monarch’s vision and legacy. The upcoming event aims to cherish his memory and celebrate his impact on Egbeda and beyond
