The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN) Oyo State Chapter has applauded the impressive performance of the state contingent to the just concluded National Sports Festival in Edo State.
In a release signed by its Chairman, Niyi Alebiosu and Secretary Adewale Tijani, Oyo SWAN eulogises Team Oyo for doing the state proud at the Sports Festival.
Team Oyo occupied the sixth position on the final table of the Competition after garnering a total of 103 medals comprising 31 gold, 30 silver and 42 bronze medals.
The Association, which notes that the performance of Team Oyo at the just concluded Competition is an improvement on its feat at the 2018 edition in Abuja, attributes the scintillating performance of the state contingent to Edo 2020 to motivations they received from the sports loving Governor of the Pace setter state Engineer Seyi Makinde.
While praising Governor Makinde for bringing out the best in the athletes who represented the state at the All Nigeria Sports Meet, Oyo SWAN urges the State Helmsman to continue to promote sports and youth development in the state.
The Umbrella Body of Sports Journalists in Oyo State also acknowledges the contributions of the state sports administrators under the leadership of the Commissioner of Youths and Sports Mr Seun Fakorede, the Chairman of Oyo State Sports Council, Honourable Gbenga Adewusi and the General Manager of the Council, Mr Gboyega Makinde, to the success of the athletes.
Oyo SWAN commends the sports administrators for their fruitful efforts, and tasks them to ensure that the state medalists are rewarded to motivate those who will represent the state in future Competitions.
