A medical doctor at the University College Hospital, UCH, in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital has tested positive for coronavirus as the number of cases in the state is now 8.
The identity of the doctor is not known as of time of writing this news.
The state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde made this known on Saturday in a series of tweet.
He said: “The COVID-19 confirmation test for one suspected case, a doctor at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, came back POSITIVE, today.
“Isolation and contact tracing have commenced. So, there are currently eight active cases in Oyo State.”
The governor thanked health workers, promising that his administration will continue to make their welfare priority and ensure that they are adequately protected as they remain on the front lines in the fight against COVID-19 in Oyo State.
He said “Please, keep following the directives of the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force. Wash your hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, regularly. Also, continue to maintain social distancing.
“Gatherings in Oyo State are limited to a maximum of ten persons.”
With this, Oyo has 16 confirmed cases. 7 has been discharged, 1 has been transferred to Lagos state.
There are 8 active cases in the state without casualty.
