The Oyo State Technical University, which is billed to begin academic activities on January 7th, 2018, is to accommodate its pioneer students with an already completed 53 blocks of flat.
This is just as the institution, through a statement by its spokesperson- Mr Ademola Adesola, said the accommodation charges will be affordable.
It was also revealed that four students would be accommodated in each of the 53 blocks.
The state quoted the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayobami Salami, as saying “We have at Tech-U a befitting accommodation for students. Here, the fee is also affordable. As you must have noticed from your visit to the hostel, we have provided a liveable space for all students in our care. We have 53 blocks of flat. The maximum number in a flat is four students.
“They have their reading and relaxation points there. There is also a reputable canteen with three professional caterers on ground to provide varieties of food. Students are free to patronise the ones they prefer. In other words, they will eat à la carte.
“May I add that this hostel for students is temporary. They will be here only for the first session. By the time they are resuming for the next session, the hostel within the University being built by a private developer would have been completed for use. Till then, they will be conveyed in coastal buses from the hostel to the campus. Our students will not have to transport themselves – their fees include bus service. Neither will they have any reason to want to cross the expressway. Our University will be fully residential. Tech-U will never admit any student it is unable to provide decent accommodation for,” he added.
On security, he said: “I wish to inform you that we have fully emplaced a network of security within the University and the hostel. We have different layers of security which include human and technological resources. The entire University premises are under 24-hour CCTV surveillance.
“A few days ago, the management of the University paid courtesy visits to the heads of the Oyo State Commands of the Nigeria Police Force and the State Security Service. The purpose of the visits was to seek the cooperation and support of these agencies in ensuring adequate and effective security for our institution. This becomes even essential when you consider the vulnerability of our location. Nonetheless, there is no cause for panic with respect to security here. I am happy to report to you that both agencies have genuinely committed themselves to the task of giving our University and all of its human and material assets maximum security.
“What this presupposes is that only people who want to commit suicide will make any attempt to call at any of our facilities in order to perpetrate any crime. Parents and the general public, therefore, need not nurse any fear for the security of life and property at Tech-U. Within what is humanly possible, we will take care of the security of the students in our care seriously.
“As for healthcare, we have partnered with a private healthcare provider. Our investigation of the records, services, and facilities of this healthcare provider reveals to us an organisation which parades competent caregivers and strong commitment to the utmost satisfaction of patients.
“Put differently, I am saying that the management of Tech-U is quite satisfied with the encouraging reputation and history of excellence of the hospital we have engaged to provide healthcare services to our students and staff,” the statement noted.
