The Oyo State Government has said traders and artisans across the 33 local government areas of the state will soon benefit from targeted support initiatives aimed at boosting commerce and grassroots economic development.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Adeniyi Adebisi, during a stakeholders’ engagement with market leaders and artisans in Saki, as part of an ongoing familiarisation tour across the geopolitical zones of the state.
The commissioner, who visited the Oke-Ogun zone alongside the Babaloja General of Oyo State, Alhaji Yekeen Abass, and members of the Babaloja-in-Council, said the planned intervention would cut across all local governments, providing opportunities for traders and artisans to expand their businesses.
Addressing market men and women in the zone, Adebisi noted that the government remained committed to strengthening the informal sector, adding that modalities for the rollout of the support programmes were being finalised.
He assured stakeholders that both his ministry and the current administration would continue to prioritise the welfare and growth of trade associations in the state.
In his remarks, Abass commended traders in the Oke-Ogun axis for their warm reception, pledging that the benefits of government interventions would be distributed equitably across all zones.
He urged members of the association to maintain unity, stressing that a cohesive structure would enhance their chances of benefiting from government policies and programmes.
Earlier, representatives of the traders in the zone, including Babasale Malik and Wahab Elesin, appreciated the delegation for the visit and pledged their support for the leadership of the Babaloja General.
As part of the visit, the delegation also paid a courtesy call on the Okere of Saki, Khalid Olabisi, where they reaffirmed the government’s commitment to grassroots economic development in the region.
