A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State and aspirant for the Oyo South Senatorial District seat, Kolapo Kola-Daisi, popularly known as KKD, has declared that he is only interested in contesting for the Senate in 2027, insisting that he has no plans to seek any other political office.
Kola-Daisi made the declaration while speaking during an interview on Splash FM Ibadan’s weekend political programme, Gbangbalasanta, hosted by Abiodun Adewole, popularly known as Mr Double A.
The APC aspirant said his political ambition remained strictly focused on representing Oyo South in the Senate, stressing that years of political engagement and grassroots consultations across the district could not be abandoned for another position.
According to him, he is not interested in contesting for the House of Representatives, governorship, or any other office outside the senatorial race.
“If it is not Oyo South, I will not collect anything,” he said.
“I don’t want anything that will take me away from my children. With no disrespect to other candidates, I don’t want House of Representatives. I am not saying House of Reps is not good, but I have been around the nine local governments and worked everywhere. All of it must not go in vain.”
Kola-Daisi noted that he already has a successful personal career and is not desperate for political office, adding that his interest in the Senate was based on conviction and long-term political commitment.
“I’m focused on Oyo South. Other candidates have their reasons, but what I want is the Senate and that is what I’m out for. I have my job already; I’m not desperate for other positions. Senate is what I’m after,” he stated.
The APC aspirant also confirmed that he had obtained the party’s nomination form for the Oyo South senatorial contest, adding that political consultations and mobilisation had already commenced ahead of the party primaries.
Speaking on speculations surrounding alleged endorsement of other candidates by President Bola Tinubu, Kola-Daisi declined to make direct comments but suggested that he would not have entered the race without confidence in his ambition.
“I can’t be disclosing what the President told me. That is a father-to-son conversation. If he told me not to contest, I won’t be here buying form and talking about it,” he said.
“I also cannot be disrespectful to the President. The form is not cheap. Spending N20 million to obtain a form is not something anybody does for fun.”
Kola-Daisi added that the APC would determine whether the party adopts consensus or direct primary for the selection of its candidate.
“The law allows for both consensus and direct primary. The party will decide which way we are going and when the time comes they will inform us,” he stated.
Expressing confidence in his chances, the APC chieftain said he was prepared to face any opponent from within or outside the party.
“I’m going for Oyo South, no House of Reps option, no governorship option, no any other option. That’s the race I’m in and I’m confident that I will defeat anybody any party brings forward,” he added.
He, however, maintained that he would remain loyal to the APC if he eventually did not emerge as the party’s candidate.
“If it comes to it that I’m not the candidate, then I will do whatever the party wants as long as it is fair. I’m not in the race to be popular but to win it,” he said.
Meanwhile, in a related political development earlier in the programme, the Chairman of the NNPP in Oyo State and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in the state, Hon. Anthony Makinde, said a new political alliance involving Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso would soon be unveiled.
According to him, both political figures have already left the African Democratic Congress and are working towards forming a stronger coalition and moving to a new party ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The Obi-Kwankwaso movement is on the move and very soon Nigerians will know the next step. Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have left ADC already and very soon they will announce the party they will contest on, with Obi as President and Kwankwaso as Vice President,” he said.
Makinde attributed the planned coalition to the current economic hardship and dissatisfaction across the country.
“There is suffering in Nigeria and that is why we have this movement. We supported Tinubu in the last election and didn’t even think of Obi or Kwankwaso then, but the situation in the country today is different,” he added.
