The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday met with the Oyo State Executive Committee in Abuja, with discussions focused on adopting a consensus approach for the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to party sources, the meeting centered on the consensus arrangement already being pursued by APC leaders in Oyo, in line with similar processes in Lagos and Ogun States.
The state exco was reportedly briefed on the consensus candidates slated for all elective positions in Oyo for next year’s election.
The Oyo delegation at the meeting was led by the state party chairman, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo. Other members of the state executive present included Fatai Adesina Adeniyi, Secretary, Olawale Sadare, Publicity Secretary, Aderemi Adepoju, Organizing Secretary, Sunday Aborisade, Legal Adviser, Adekemi Opatunde, Woman Leader, Olalekan Oladejo, Youth Leader, Joshua Oyebamiji, Senatorial Chairman, Oyo Central, Tunde Oloyede, Senatorial Chairman, Oyo North, Sunday Babalola, Welfare Secretary, Joseph Omoniyi, Chairman of LG Chairmen and Mojeed Adebayo, Senatorial Chairman, Oyo South
The move signals the party’s push to streamline its candidate selection process and avoid rancorous primaries in key South West states.
By aligning Oyo’s approach with Lagos and Ogun, the APC appears to be seeking unity and cohesion ahead of the 2027 polls.
While the specific names of the consensus candidates were not disclosed, sources said the state exco was informed of the arrangements during the closed-door meeting.
The meeting comes as political activities intensify across Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections, with aspirants jostling for tickets at various levels.
