The Nigerian Tribune Newspaper reports that the suspect who was paraded alongside 25 other suspected criminals at the Oyo State Police Command, Ibadan, carried out the heinous act in Tede, Atisbo local government area in the Oke Ogun Area of the state.

The suspect, who according to the Police report had confessed to the crime, hit his father on the head with an iron rod while he was asleep.

His father, according to the report, went to bed on Friday shortly after the celebration without an inkling that death is lurking around the corner.

The suspect who could not explain the rationale behind his action said the heinous act has nothing to do with the frosty relationship between his parents.

The suspect in an interview with newsmen said, ”I am a student of the Progressives Secondary school, Tede. I am 18 years old.

“I don’t know what came upon me on that fateful day as I woke up at midnight and headed for where my dad was sleeping and hit him with the iron rod which resulted in his death.”

His action was corroborated by the Police report, as the Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso in a statement disclosed that, “on Friday, 21 April, 2023, at about 0800hrs one Adeagbo Taofeek ‘m’ of Somola area Tede, reported at Tede Divisional Police Headquarters that on same day at about 0630hrs his nephew named Adeagbo Ismail ‘m’ came to inform him that when he woke up around 0600hrs he met his father one Adeagbo Jimoh ‘m’ lying dead where he was sleeping inside the compound with a serious mark of violence on his forehead.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that on 21/04/2023 at about 2300hrs the Suspect, Adeagbo Ismail ‘m’ struck his Late Father on the Head with an Iron rod where he was sleeping leading to his death.

“The suspect has voluntarily confessed to the crime.

“He confessed further that his mother, one Adeagbo Rashidat ‘f’ was aware that he killed his father and concealed the information.

“The said Adeagbo Rashidat ‘f was also arrested.”

However, his mother, Rasheed Adeagbo in a separate interview said she woke up to see the lifeless body of her husband on the floor.

According to her, “I woke up the children for the early morning Islamic prayer only to see the lifeless body of my husband on the floor.

“I raised the alarm and people gathered in our compound. Taofeek has gone out to inform the family members of the demise of his father.

“I have seven children for my late husband even though we normally quarrel, I will never wish him dead.

“The family members reported the case at the Police station. A combined team of the police asked for all the children but I thought Taofeek had not come back but only to discover that he was hiding under the bed.

“I asked him whether he knows anything about the death of his father and he confessed to the crime.”

In another development, the police have arrested 23 other suspects for various crimes including attempted kidnap, robbery, impersonation and related vices.

A 5-man robbery syndicate was nabbed during an attempt to divert a trailer load of wheat loaves worth millions of naira at Iroko in Akinyele local government area.

“The security reports read, “On 17th April, 2023 at about 0200hrs, a team of operatives attached to the Command Monitoring Unit received credible an actionable information that some members of a criminal syndicate had just hijacked a trailer loaded with several tones of WHEATOFAL at IROKO area along Oyo/Ibadan expressway.

“Sequel to the receipt of the information, Police operatives immediately swung into action and after a serious manhunt for the armed robbers, three members of their criminal syndicate were arrested in connection with the crime.

“The “Hijacked and Diverted’’ DAF Truck with Registration Numbers ZUR 438 YL KEBBI State carrying a 40-Feet Container loaded with some tones of WHEATOFAL worth several Millions Naira were recovered at the syndicate’s hideout where the goods were to be trans-loaded.

“Another unregistered DAF Truck which the used by the suspects to intercept the Hijacked Trailer and which was to be used to convey the diverted goods was equally recovered.

“Upon interview, the suspects confessed voluntarily to the crime and series of similar armed robbery operations they have masterminded along Oyo/Ibadan expressway.

“Further discreet investigation subsequently led to the arrest of two fleeing members of the syndicate in their hideouts”
