Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District in The Senate, Hadjia Monsurat Sunmonu has distributed transformers to communities under her district.
The gesture was in fulfilment of the lawmaker’s promise of contributing to the development of cities and villages in the 11 local government areas that made up the district.
According to Sunmonu, who was the immediate past speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, she got wind of the electricity problem during the electioneering campaign in 2015 and had promised to assist the troubled communities in solving the major problems confronting them.
She revealed that the project cost around N145million, adding that the gesture was part of proceeds of the intervention fund for the legislative arm.
Speaking with journalists at the OYSADEP office, Ring-Road Ibadan where the transformers were transported to various destinations in the senatorial district, Sunmonu said that each of the transformers cost N5million naira while each local government in the senatorial district received three transformers each, with the installation and benefit spreading across several towns and villages.
She assured the people that she will not relent in bringing the dividend of democracy to her constituents.
Her words: “we are here to commence the distribution of transformers to the 11 local governments in Oyo central senatorial district. During the campaign, I noticed that the major problem in these local government areas is power and water. So I now said let me start with power, believing that if I start with power, most artisans will experience a boost in their businesses.
“Although, we, as senators, actually had challenges with the intervention fund with the executive arm of government. At the initial stage, I originally requested for 85 transformers, but unfortunately, they approved 50 percent of our intervention fund. Hopefully, the second batch will follow suit, soonest”
Commending Sunmonu for living up to her promise, two chairmen of APC in Egbeda and Akinyele Local government areas of the state, Elder Olu Opawale, JP, Alhaji Taiwo Opadeji, prayed for the lawmaker.
Elder Opawale said “Senator Sunmonu has made us proud today in our lcoal government.
