The Aare Alawo Ekun of Ofiki Land, Alayeluwa Oba Gbenga Adigun Adeoye Oyetunji Oyinlola II, has commended Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Abiodun Makinde, and security agencies following the safe rescue of the abducted prospective National Youth Service Corps members.
The traditional ruler also called on the Federal Government to review policies guiding the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme in view of the security risks faced by corps members deployed to different parts of the country.
Oba Oyinlola, in a statement, rejoiced with Governor Makinde and the people of Oyo State over the safe release of the corps members, particularly commending the Okere of Saki Land and Chairman of the Oke-Ogun Obas Association, His Royal Majesty Oba Dr Surv. Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi Oyedepo III, over the release of one of the rescued corps members who is a resident of Saki.
He also praised the security agencies involved in the rescue operation for their efforts, saying their intervention ensured that the corps members were released unharmed.
“I rejoice with the Governor and the people of Oyo State on the safe rescue of the abducted Youth Corps members.
“I particularly commend His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr Surv. Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi Oyedepo III, the Chairman of the Oke-Ogun Obas Association and the Okere of Saki Land, for the safe release of one of the corps members who is a resident of Saki.
“I also want to appreciate all the security agencies for the awesome work done to retrieve them unhurt. I wish them more grease to their elbows,” the monarch said.
Oba Oyinlola, however, urged the Federal Government to take urgent steps to address security concerns surrounding the deployment of corps members across the country.
He said recent security challenges required a review of existing NYSC policies to better protect young Nigerians participating in the national service programme.
“I urge the Federal Government to review the National Youth Service policies to address the security risks of the corps members. The recent security challenges require prompt action,” he said.
The monarch also commended Governor Makinde for what he described as his prompt response whenever security incidents occur in the state.
According to him, the governor’s response to such incidents demonstrates concern for the lives and property of residents.
“Furthermore, I want to appreciate His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Abiodun Makinde, for his promptness each time such an ugly incident happens. It shows leadership that values the lives and property of its citizens,” he said.
The traditional ruler also appealed to the Oyo State Government to address the poor condition of roads linking Ofiki as well as the inner roads within the township.
He said the condition of the roads had made movement difficult for residents and other road users, urging the state government to consider their rehabilitation.
Oba Oyinlola prayed for continued wisdom and guidance for Governor Makinde in the discharge of his responsibilities, while urging sustained efforts towards the safety and development of communities across Oyo State.
