Following the decision of the Oyo State House of Assembly to back the dissolution of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC board by the Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde, lawmaker representing Saki East/Atisbo Hon. Riliwan Gbadamosi (Wale Canada) has said the decisions of the Governor and that of the house are in the right direction and in the interest of the people of Oyo State.
Recall that the House in its sitting on Tuesday backed the dissolution of the board by the governor stating that the board’s decision to conduct election into the LCDs is unconstitutional.
Wale Canada has fondly called by his people and colleagues in the house said this after plenary yesterday. He said “the past administration made a grave constitutional error by conducting election into Local Council Development Area in May 2018, which negates the provisions of Section 4(a) part II of the Third Schedule to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
He added that the past government would have sought an amendment to Section 5(a) of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission Law, to allow the inclusion of the conduct of elections into LCDAs in the State by OYSIEC, as that section only allow OYSIEC to conduct elections into Local Government and not LCDAs.
He also decried the state of health facilities across the state and stated that the legislatures are ready to support the Governor on his plans to reposition the health sector in the state.
