Oyo state government has appealed to residents living within flood prone areas to temporarily evacuate to avoid any disaster as government intensifies effort to forestall flood within those areas.
Commissioner for environment and natural resources, Rt. Hon. Kehinde Ayoola made the appeal during an inspection exercise to areas of flood scare due to yesterday’s downpour
The commissioner also charged residents to desist from any act capable of blocking gutters and water channels while assuring that government would not make empty promises rather drastic measures would be put in place to abate flood threat in the state
Permanent Secretary Ministry of environment and natural resources, Dr. Bashir Olarenwan also noted that according to a report by the Nigeria Hydrological Service Agency (NIHSA), heavy down pour should be expected in the state and residents must be proactive in ensuring that properties and lives were not lost
Some community leaders and residents of Olodo, Wofun and environs, appreciated the concern and appealed to the state government to expediate actions and interventions to address the challenges
Commissioner for works, Professor Raphael Afonja, Permanent Secretary Ministry of environment and natural resources Dr. Bashir Olarenwanju, officials from the state emergency management agency and other government functionaries were on the inspection tour as the team visited Olodo, Wofun, Kute Jerinyin and other suburb within Ibadan.
