University of Ibadan Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka has advised all alumni of the institution to organize themselves into a class set , thereby emulating 1967 set with a view to assisting their alma mater.
The UI boss who gave this advice while hosting members of 1967 set in his lodge noted that the 1967 set has been the most famous and active set of alumni UI has ever produced with its consistent contributions to the development of the university.
Calling on other alumni to emulate the 1967 set by organizing themselves into different class sets , Prof. Olayinka remarked that UI urgently needed the intervention of its products, saying the money coming from the federal government was grossly inadequate to run the university.
The VC who expressed appreciation for the contributions of the 1967 set noted that it was indeed a great opportunity to share experiences with UI’s ancestors , pointing out that the university would continue to be the first and the best with the support and contributions of its products.
The 1967 set built a bus stop at the Queen Elizabeth hall of residence,reconstructed the main gate of the university and built a bust of intellectual to mark its 50 years of graduating from UI last year.
Speaking, the Class President, Prof. Oladele Osibanjo challenged the university to increase its interface with the alumni, saying UI alumni have important role to play in taking the institution to greater heights.
Prof. Osibanjo who also admonished the university to make the students more marketable by teaching them contemporary needs of the industry, stressed that it was high time the university reviewed its curriculum.
The 1967 Class set President suggested that the need to resuscitate the consultancy arm of the university has become compelling in view of the challenges facing the university.
The ceremony which was characterized by exchanges of banters among the old men and women of the class climaxed with sharing of life’s experiences with an emphasis on probity, integrity, and honesty .
Members of the 1967 set who attended the ceremony were Prof. Yombo Bolarinwa, Dr. Kayode Lasaki, Chief Báyò Oyero, Mrs. Titilola Famubode, Mr. Biodun Onibon Oje, and Mrs. Adejoke Scott-Emuakpor.
Others included E. M. Oladunni, Princess Deola Ayoola, Elder S. O. Olangbenro, Mrs. Funlola Oyele, Mrs. Ranti Onikan, Chief Wole Akinwande, and Mr. Jibola Dedenuola.
