The University of Ibadan received, with considerable sadness, the departure of one of her greatest alumni, Sir Remi Omotoso (KJW) whose death occurred on Friday 04 June at the age of 75.
Sir Omotoso who served the University in various capacities including Chairman of the University of Ibadan Ventures Ltd, and one time member of Governing Council was indeed an epitome of what Yoruba call Omoluwabi, evincing honesty, hard work, valour, loyalty and patriotism.
“He was an administrator and industry leader in Nigeria’s financial sector, with a rare devotion to duties, humility, commitment, and honesty of purpose.
“On account of his hard work and excellence, however, he served as the Chairman of the Board of Standard Chartered Bank of Nigeria and DN Meyer Paints. He had previously served as Group Managing Director of Odua Investment Company Limited and Director General/Chief Executive Officer of Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
“While serving as Chairman of the University of Ibadan Ventures Ltd, Sir Omotoso and his team built and donated to the University, the current Student Affairs edifice in 2002. He later served as Chairman of the Lagos Branch of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association Worldwide. He was ever proud of the University, ready to serve and advance the interest of the institution. Truly UITE indeed!
“Sir Omotoso who was born in 1945 in Ayedun-Ekiti, Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, until his death, was a member of the Ekiti State COVID-19 Response Resource Mobilisation Committee(RRMC) set up by His
Excellency Governor Kayode Fayemi to galvanise resources for the state in the battle against coronavirus,” a statement by the management reads.
