The Chairman of ATISBO Local Government Area of Oyo State, Alhaji Bashir Olumuyiwa Alade, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde for what he described as the administration’s remarkable strides in strengthening the education sector across the state.
Alade gave the commendation during the 70th anniversary celebration of Nawarudeen Primary School, Ago-Are, where he also announced a personal donation of N1 million to support the development of the school.
Speaking at the event, the chairman noted that the school holds deep personal significance for him and many others within the community.
“We thank God for the 70 years that Nawarudeen Primary School has existed. I finished from this school, my mother finished from this school, and many members of my family also passed through here,” he said.
“By God’s grace, we shall all be here again to celebrate the 100th anniversary.”
Alade urged alumni and community members to take ownership of the school’s development, quoting a popular civic message as inspiration.
“A former US President once said, ‘Don’t think of what your country can do for you; think of what you can do for your country.’ This school has impacted our lives, and we must return the favour,” he added.
“They have read to us the needs of the school, and it is important that we all contribute to its growth.”
The chairman also praised Governor Makinde for improving access, quality, and fairness in public education, especially through the recent recruitment of teachers on merit.
“Governor Makinde has strengthened education in Oyo State in ways we have never seen before,” Alade said.
“The recruitment of qualified teachers for primary and secondary schools strictly by merit has improved the standard of learning across the state, and Ago-Are is a major beneficiary.”
He noted that the reforms have contributed significantly to the improved academic performance and administrative stability in schools within ATISBO LGA.
