Sound Sultan: Nigeria's Agric Sector ‎Deserves Attention Given To Abuja Airport Runway‎

Iseyin-born hip hop artiste, Lanre Fasasi, has revealed why the federal government needs to give attention to the agricultural sector just like they did to the Abuja airport runway.

‎Sound Sultan, as he is popularly called, ‎said that 70 per cent of Nigeria’s poor live in rural areas and derive their livelihood from small-scale agriculture.‎

‎‎Speaking on a concert‎ targeted at inspiring Nigerian youths to become active citizens and demand accountability from the leaders sponsored by OXFAM, Sound Sultan, who is ‎OXFAM’s brand ambassador, ‎further called on the right authorities to act fast on the improvement of food securities.‎

‎‎Sound Sultan will play alongside top celebrity artist like Vector, Niniola, Harrysong, Lami Philips and Illbliss among others at ‘United for Food’ concert which holds November 24 at Queens park event center, Oniru, Lagos.

‎He spoke further: ‎“Investing in agriculture remains the most viable way for the country to achieve an economic revival and sustainable and inclusive national development. So, efforts to be made in fighting hunger must prioritize agriculture and climate change adaptation. The agric sector deserves the attention that was given to Abuja airport runway” he stated.

‎‎“As we prepare for the 2018 fiscal year, I would like to call on the government to ‘walk the Talk’ by putting money where our mouth is (as we popularly say in Nigeria) by increasing the amount of budget that goes to agriculture. Nigeria is the giant of Africa, no one deserves to go to bed hungry,” said sultan.

‎Abdulazeez Musa, a representative of OXFAM in Nigeria also stated; “We are using this medium to reach out to a particular target group that is hard to reach. We know their interest is music and the Nigerian music today is the in thing, anywhere you go is Nigerian music so we are using that as an entry point to drive home our message to get a target population that we want, you know these are the population that also have the power to pressurize the government who also have access to these policy makers so that they can also talk to them.”‎
