The immediate past governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, on Sunday said he has pity for the new governor of the state, Seyi Makinde.

Senator Ajimobi stated this in his speech at a reception organised for him in Ibadan by Chief Kola Daisi, said the new governor has raised the hope of the people of the state than what available resources can do.

The Independent reports that speaking at the reception attended by dignitaries including Chief Daisi, Otunba Subomi Balogun, Alhaji Yekeen Adeojo and many others, Ajimobi said “it is easier to promise than to fulfill”.

The former Oyo State governor noted that many people do not understand that performance depends on available resources, but believe that the government prints currency to cater for its needs.

Ajimobi thanked God for giving him the grace to rule Oyo State for eight years, saying the state is where people will start to criticize and condemn any governor within one year.

The former governor said the only mistake he made was trying to seek perfection in an imperfect world, but insisted that he will continue to seek perfection and strive for excellence.

He revealed that when he was first voted into office in 2011, some people predicted that he would have problem with the trio of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; Late Arisekola Alao; and Sheik Muideen Ajani Bello.

Ajimobi, however, thanked God that he did not have any faceoff with the trio throughout his eight-year tenure.

He noted that the gathering of important personalities at the reception was a confirmation that he is loved by the people.

The former governor said, “Those saying that Ibadan voted me out because they were angry with me are getting it wrong. I have contested elections five times in Ibadan and I won four times.

“Today is the happiest day of my life. It is the day of validation. Look at the quality of people who have come here today. These are people who have reached the pinnacle in their chosen careers. We have the highest concentration of nobles here”.
