The academic activities at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH) has suffered another set back as members of the Academic Staff Union of the institution have decided to join the nationwide strike embarked upon by the national leadership of the union on Monday.
ASUU National President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi had on Sunday night declared the indefinite strike after a congress of the union held in Akure.
Chairman of ASUU LAUTECH chapter, Dr. Biodun Olaniran, announced on Tuesday that the chapter has joined the strike in compliance to the directive of the national body of the union.
This comes just as the school is emerging from series of protests and shutdowns over non-payment of salaries and recently, the hike in tuition fees. After reaching an agreement with students and other stakeholders, the university management had fixed November 5 for resumption.
But it is now clear that academic activities would have to be put on hold again until ASUU calls off the nationwide strike.
Olaniran, in a statement entitled: “ASUU LAUTECH joins national strike”, said: “In response to national directives as contained in the resolution of ASUU NEC which held in FUTA, ASUU LAUTECH resolved to join the national strike declared by the Union.
“The strike is total, comprehensive and indefinite.”
