The Executive Chairmen of Olorunsogo, Oorelope, and Irepo Local Government Areas of Oyo State have held a joint security meeting to ensure the safety of lives and property of residents in their areas.
The meeting, which aligns with the vision of Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, to actualize a safe environment for Oyo residents, was also borne out of the determination of the three Local Government Chairmen to protect their councils.
Our correspondent reports that some of the issues discussed at the joint meeting include possible ways of curbing kidnapping, illegal mining, and banditry in the councils.
Hon. Qozeem Olayanju from Olorunsogo, Hon. Tunde Taoheed Olayiwola from Irepo, and their Oorelope counterpart, Hon. Ogundiran Jacob, vowed not to leave any stone unturned in tackling insecurity and assisting security agencies to carry out their constitutional roles of protecting lives and property.
At the meeting held in Kisi, Irepo Local Government, the council chairmen unanimously agreed to prioritize security matters and redouble efforts against illegal mining activities in their councils, as directed by the governor during a recently held stakeholders’ meeting in Ibadan.
While commending Governor Makinde for improving the security architecture across the state, they urged the state government and security agencies to comb federal government forest reserves in the councils to fish out criminally minded individuals who have been using the forest as hideouts.
The chairmen also called for the urgent need for the state to speed up action on the creation of a proposed task force that would help address activities of illegal miners in local governments across the state and other areas.
They also emphasized the need for consistent fueling of vehicles of security agencies in the councils to allow them to operate 24-hour patrols of flashpoint areas, which they believe would also make their operation across the federal constituency smooth.
Other resolutions at the joint security meeting included the relocation of Operation Burst from Novelty Poly, Kisi to reserve areas and clearing of bushes at least 10 meters on both sides of the road along reserve areas.
