“If I had to start all over again with #0.00, I would wash 40 cars every day using quality products, at N1,000 per car, that’s N40,000 daily and N1.2 million monthly.” – Sijibomi Ogundele

What would you do if everything you had built disappeared overnight?

For many people, that question is frightening.

But for the Group Managing Director of Sujimoto Group, Sijibomi Ogundele, the answer comes with remarkable clarity.

During an interview, he was asked what he would do if he had to start life all over again with absolutely nothing, not even his reputation or the Sujimoto name.

His response was simple yet profound.

_”I would wash 30 to 40 cars every day, charging ₦1,000 to ₦2,000 per car. I would go to estates, churches, and other places with a high concentration of cars to find customers. Once the business became profitable, I would employ people to manage it while expanding. Then I would move into agriculture, buying truckloads of tomatoes and onions from the North and supplying them to major markets across the country.”_

To many, it sounded like an ordinary business idea. But beneath that answer lies one of the greatest lessons in entrepreneurship: resilience.

Resilience is not about never failing; it is about possessing the confidence that, regardless of the circumstances, you can rebuild from scratch. The idea is simple: no matter what the situation is, there is always something you can do to survive and create value.

Sijibomi Ogundele’s response reflects the mindset of someone who understands that wealth is not merely money in the bank. True wealth is knowledge, discipline, vision, and the ability to identify opportunities where others see obstacles.

His willingness to start with a humble car wash business demonstrates that no legitimate enterprise is too small when approached with excellence. Rather than waiting for massive capital or ideal conditions, he would focus on providing value, earning trust, and gradually scaling the business. As he noted, even if the most expensive product in Dangote’s portfolio sells for about ₦11,000, a car wash business may not appear glamorous, but what truly matters is meeting people’s everyday needs.

His next step, expanding into the agricultural value chain through the wholesale distribution of tomatoes and onions, further illustrates strategic thinking. Instead of remaining in one business, he would reinvest profits into sectors with high demand and strong cash flow, creating multiple streams of income.

Ironically, that is exactly how resilient entrepreneurs think. They do not become attached to titles or prestige; they become attached to solving problems and creating value.

That same mindset has defined Sijibomi Ogundele’s entrepreneurial journey.

When he founded Sujimoto Group, he started with just one staff member. Today, the company has grown into an enterprise valued at over ₦200 billion, demonstrating what resilience, vision, and consistency can achieve over time.

From those modest beginnings, he built Sujimoto Group into one of Nigeria’s most recognised luxury real estate brands, delivering iconic developments that have redefined premium living.

Through innovation, bold architecture, and an unwavering commitment to quality, the company has established itself as a symbol of excellence in Nigeria’s real estate industry.

Beyond his venture into the food industry, Sijibomi Ogundele continues to push the boundaries of luxury real estate through projects that are redefining Nigeria’s skyline. At the heart of this vision is LeonardoBySujimoto, a 69-storey ultra-luxury residential development designed to become the tallest residential building in Africa and one of the continent’s most ambitious architectural masterpieces.

Not one to rest on past achievements, Ogundele has also unveiled plans for another landmark estate that will further expand Sujimoto’s footprint in Nigeria’s luxury housing market.

These developments reinforce the philosophy behind Ogundele’s earlier remarks about starting afresh. Whether building a luxury skyscraper, planning a new estate, or venturing into the food business, the underlying principle remains the same: identify opportunities, execute with excellence, and keep moving forward regardless of the challenges.

It is this resilience and forward-thinking approach that continues to distinguish Sujimoto Group as one of Nigeria’s most ambitious indigenous enterprises.

Like every entrepreneur, the journey has not been without challenges. Economic uncertainty, rising construction costs, and industry headwinds have tested even the strongest businesses.

Yet resilience has remained the defining characteristic of the Sujimoto story.

That resilience is evident in the successful delivery of LucreziaBySujimoto, the long-awaited and one of the most talked-about luxury developments in Banana Island.

Despite numerous challenges and public speculation, the project was completed, and homeowners have now received the keys to their apartments, reinforcing Sujimoto’s reputation for delivering on its promises.

Rather than retreat in difficult times, Ogundele has consistently looked for new opportunities.

That mindset recently led him beyond real estate into Nigeria’s food industry through Sujimoto Foods, a venture aimed at strengthening the nation’s food value chain. The expansion reflects a broader vision of contributing to food security, supporting local production, and creating jobs while diversifying the company’s investments.

His decision reinforces an important truth: resilient entrepreneurs do not confine themselves to one industry. They evolve with changing realities, adapt to market needs, and continue building despite uncertainty.

Ultimately, Sijibomi Ogundele’s answer was never really about washing cars or trading tomatoes. It was about confidence—the confidence that skills, discipline, resilience, and a relentless work ethic are assets no economic downturn can take away.

The greatest lesson from his story is that success is rarely determined by where you start. It is determined by your willingness to begin, your courage to persevere through setbacks, and your ability to keep creating value.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, the message is clear: fortunes may be lost, businesses may encounter setbacks, but resilience is the one investment that never depreciates.

And for Sijibomi Ogundele, that resilience has transformed bold ideas into enduring success, first in luxury real estate and now in the food business, proving that those who refuse to give up are often the ones who shape the future.
