Open Letter To The Leadership Of The APC On The Ibadan South East/Ibadan North East House Of Representatives Primary Election

By Peter Amao

A Leader Beyond Titles
Leadership is not about occupying positions; it is about influence, vision, and the ability to transform communities. In Oyo North Senatorial District, former chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and professor of Political Science, Prof. Adeolu Akande, has already proven that effective leadership begins long before holding an elective office. His record of service demonstrates a rare combination of intellect, compassion, and national credibility — qualities that position him as a true statesman ready to represent his people at the highest level.

Expanding Oyo North’s Voice in National Institutions
Prof. Akande understands that meaningful development requires strong representation in national decision-making bodies. Through his influence, he has facilitated the appointment of qualified individuals to federal boards and institutions such as:
i. Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority
ii. National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA)
iii. Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC)
iv. National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)
v. Federal Housing Authority (FHA)
vi. Governing councils of universities including Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Ilorin, and Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

These appointments ensure that Oyo North’s interests are represented in critical discussions on education, technology, housing, and national development. Beyond the prestige that comes with such representation, these appointments also strengthen the connection between Oyo North and the federal government.

Visionary Development for the Future
Prof. Akande’s vision for Oyo North is rooted in strategic thinking and national engagement. He has already attracted development projects that support education and technology, including billion-naira ICT infrastructure at institutions like the University of Ibadan and LAUTECH. His ability to connect communities to federal opportunities demonstrates that he is uniquely positioned to secure even greater interventions when entrusted with a Senate mandate.

He sees a future where Oyo North thrives through:
i. Improved infrastructure.
ii. Expanded educational opportunities.
iii. Stronger economic development.
iv. Youth empowerment through innovation and technology.

This vision reflects a leader who is not only aware of the challenges but also equipped with the connections and experience to deliver solutions.

Compassionate Leadership Rooted in Service
Beyond governance and representation, Prof. Akande has consistently shown compassion for the people. Through the Adeolu Akande Foundation, he has supported hundreds of students with tertiary education funding, empowered small businesses with financial assistance, and trained youths in vocational skills.

These initiatives are not political gestures but genuine acts of service. His humanitarian efforts reflect a leader who listens, cares, and acts to improve lives. His actions reflect a leader who understands that development must reach every segment of society.

A New Dawn for Oyo North
Oyo North is a region of immense potential, and Prof. Akande represents the promise of a new era defined by purposeful leadership and inclusive progress. His proven ability to influence national institutions, attract development projects, and empower communities makes him the right choice for a future of prosperity.

He embodies the qualities of a visionary leader, possessing intellectual depth as a distinguished scholar; national influence through his work in government and academia; compassionate service through humanitarian initiatives and proven impact even without elective office.

It is, therefore, not out place ro say that to the people of Oyo North Senatorial District, covering the 10 local governments of Oke Ogun and three councils in Ogbomoso, Prof. Adeolu Akande is more than an aspirant. He is a visionary leader who has already expanded their voice nationally, attracted development projects, and touched lives through compassion and service.

His record proves that he is ready to represent Oyo North in the Senate, not just as a politician, but as a statesman who combines intellect, influence, and empathy.

With his leadership, Oyo North can look forward to a future of greater visibility, stronger development, and inclusive progress.

Dr Amao writes from Igboho, Oorelope Local Government, Oyo State.
