The gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in Oyo State, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, has reacted to the Saturday’s attack of his campaign train in Igbo Ora, Ibarapa geo-political zone of the state.
Adelabu while reacting, called on the state commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Odude, to beef security around all candidates contesting in this year’s elections.
Adelabu in a statement made available to DAILY POST Sunday evening by Dr. Bayo Busari, spokesman for Friends of Bayo Adelabu (FOBA), also called on the CP to invite all the gubernatorial candidates to sign a peace accord.
He expressed worry that the state that has been enjoying peace is now witnessing political violence.
Busari in the statement said, “FOBA condemned the recourse to violence by politicians, saying that they cannot govern over the dead.
“It would be recalled that the campaign train of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in the March 2, 2019 election was attacked in Igbo Ora on Saturday with several people sustaining various degrees of injury.
“In the same vain, we call on the state Commissioner of Police to beef up security around all the candidates in this year’s elections.
“We equally call on our elders across the state as well as religious leaders to help preach peace among their followers and adherents.
“It is instructive to note that Oyo State has been enjoying relative security of life and property and we should not allow partisan politics to rob us of the peace that we’ve been enjoying”.
“We call on the Commissioner of Police of Oyo State to invite all the candidates participating in the elections to sign a peace accord.”
He called on the people not to allow themselves to be used as canon fodder in the elections by politicians, as the elections will come and go.
“We also charge election-related monitoring bodies to be up and doing in drawing attention to politicians encouraging violence.”
