At the first hospital she visited – Jericho Specialist Hospital on Jericho Road in Ibadan, the new year baby girl was said to have been delivered around 2.48 a.m. The baby weighed 2.9 kilogrammes.

But it was a mixed celebration for Mrs Basirat Akeem, who was delivered of a set of twins – both boys – at the Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital at Yemetu in Ibadan, the state capital.

Mrs Akeem, who was described as having delivered the last baby in 2017, also doubles as the first to deliver the first in 2018 at the facility.

One of the twins was delivered at 11:30 p.m, December 31, 2017 while the other came at 1 a.m on January 1, 2018, about two hours interval.

Although the first baby was delivered unassisted, officials of the hospital said the second was born through a Caesarean section.

Mrs Ajimobi, who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Atinuke Oshunkoya, also had a stopover at the Oni Memorial Children Hospital at Oni and Sons area of Ring Road , Ibadan, where she presented gifts and cash to the children.

The governor’s wife said the visit to the children was to give them a reason to cheer in the season and pray for their speedy recovery.

She also showed support to the caregivers at the various facilities.

Presenting the cash gifts and others donations to the parents of the newborns in the presence of the hospital officials and wives of top government functionaries, Mrs Ajimobi said the gesture was to give the parents and the newborns good reasons to be happy this Yuletide season.

The governor’s wife urged the mothers of the babies to always put their hopes in God and nurse the children to greatness.

Mrs Ajimobi said: “I want to encourage us to share love with the people, especially today. We should also put our hope in God and look up to a fulfilled 2018 as we continue to celebrate.”

She admonished the parents to teach the children the way of the Lord for their good and the society’s.

The parents of the newborns – Mrs Aishat Gbadamosi, Mrs. Adegoke Mujidat and Mrs. Akeem Basirat – thanked the governor’s wife for the gesture.

They said they were overwhelmed by the gesture of the governor’s wife.

The Chief Nursing Officer at Adeoyo Hospital, Mrs Elizabeth Oluronbi, lauded the gesture and prayed that the state would continue to witness more peace under the Abiola Ajimobi administration.
