As a way of addressing the health needs of the people of his community, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State, Hon. Wole Akinleye, yesterday embarked on free health initiave.
At the event which took place at Orogun community of Akinyele local government area of the state, hundreds of people were screened and given free drugs. Voluntary HIV and hepatitis screening were also conducted on the people.
On what made him to organise the initiative, Akinleye, who was once the chairman of Pacesetter Transport Service, PTS, said it was one of the ways to assist the needy in his own little way.
He added that: “things are hard, especially as we are just coming out of recession. Some people are nursing one health challenge or the other but are unable to go for regular checks so as to know how manage it. In our own little ways, we have got to assist these set of people. We have it in mind to make this a regular programme.”
A community leader, Pa Nureni Saibu, commended the young politician for the gesture, adding that: “if others can replicate this, the society would be better.”
