As part of anniversary activities of the Oyo State Model Education System Interventions’ (OYOMESI) Festival of Learning, the OYOMESI is inviting students, technology enthusiast, programmers, software developers, engineers graphic designers, interface designers and other technological driven Nigerians to the maiden HACKATHON competition on environmental issues in Nigeria.
The competition, tagged OYOMESI Hackathon, will take place at the Technical University, Ibadan between 29th June – 1st July 2018.
Oyomesi HACKATHON, the first of it kind in Oyo State is an initiative of OYOMESI in collaboration with West Africa ENRG, a leading environmental services company and the company in charge of Oyo State Waste Management.
Oyomesi HACKATHON themed “Reuse, Reduce and Recycle’ is competition which is open to all Nigerians who are technologically driven and internet-savy to come and brainstorm to provide solutions to some environmental management challenges.
Below are 5 reasons why you must not miss this golden opportunity:
1. It will be the first ever HACKATHON competition on Environmental issues in Nigeria and it’s bringing people of likely-minds together to come up with innovative solutions to problems or challenges on environment.
2. Applicants will be camped for 3 days and grouped to brainstorm and provide solutions that directly respond to a variety of specific environmental management challenges like Waste Collection Billing and Payment System, Reporting of Illegal Dumping Sites, City Enumeration and Management, Recycling Measurement and Reporting.
3. For top three ideas, an investment of N2,000,000.00 (Two Million Naira) will be made. The winner takes N1,000,000.00 (One Million Naira) while N700,000.00 (Seven hundred thousand) and N300,000.00 (Three hundred thousand) for the runners up respectively.
4. Each investment will be made into a CAC (Corporate Affairs Commission) registered company, the new company’s shareholding indicatively will be 70% – to the team, 20% – West African ENRG and 10% – Oyo State Government. The investment is targeted as early seed capital to achieve a pre-funding position for angle investment.
5. There will be a further trip for the winning team on how to achieve the workability of the solutions provided. Also for mentorship and capacity building by Mr Vicent Choi, a partner in the United Kingdom.
