The lawmaker representing Ibadan North East/ Ibadan South East Federal Constituency of Oyo State, Honourable Abass Adigun, aka Agboworin, in collaboration with the National Productivity Centre (NPC) have commenced a four-day ICT training for 150 youths in his constituency.
The ICT training, which commenced on Monday, February 21, will end on Thursday, February 24, 2022.
Addressing the participants, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker said the training was aimed at reducing unemployment rate and improve knowledge of youths on ICT.
Agboworin, who was represented by the PDP chairman in Ibadan South East Local Government, Engineer Sulaimon Adebisi, noted that ICT training is imperative in this digital age to enable the youths compete with their counterparts across the globe and help them in building better a society.
He urged the participants to make judicious use of the training and not use it to enagage in fraudulent activities.
In her remarks, the state coordinator of NPC, Mrs Kehinde Adeyemi, commended the initiative of the lawmaker, saying that the youths need to be globally compliant.
“I believe in teaching people how to fish, than giving them fish. I believe this will help the youths and improve their knowledge on ICT,” Adeyemi said.
She enjoined the beneficiaries to concentrate, adding that they should not see the training as a means of getting their own share from the government purse.
“They should improve on what they will learn. Ideas are formed in the heart after training, they should sleep over it. They should develop their own ideas, by the time they have the full understanding of the training, the sky is their limit,” she added.
Also, the facilitator, Mr Adetunji Aderinto, said the key benefit of the programme is to reduce the rate of unemployment in Nigeria.
“If the youths are gainfully employed with the ICT training, it will go a long way in helping the government. The truth is that, with the power of ICT, we can go a long way. Nigeria can emulate the developed countries and be a hub for the rest of African countries.
“There are so many opportunities in software development which they can tap into. We will go further to mentor them, so that we can monitor and advise them. They should think on how to use ICT to solve the problem in the society and not to think on how to use ICT to dupe people.
“They can use digital market to help people in marketing their product online because the market is now global,” he said.
Two the beneficiaries, who spoke on behalf of the other beneficiaries- Damola Kareem and Yusuf Akande- expressed their appreciation to the lawmaker.
