The Oyo State Police Command has warned members of secret cult groups against unlawful gathering anywhere in the state.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr Nwachukwu Enwonwu, who gave this warning vowed that the police would not allow cult groups or hoodlums to cause a breakdown of law and order in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, said this on Monday in a statement on behalf of the commissioner of police.
The CP said the police had a reliable information that Aiye Confraternity and Eiye Confraternity (Buccaneer) usually hold their annual celebrtions on July 7 and August 8 respectively in the South-West states.
He said the police would not allow such unlawful gathering in the state while calling on residents to inform the command of such gatherings.
The statement read, “We working assiduously to clamp down on aforementioned secret cult groups. It is worthy of note that concerted efforts have been put in place to respond adequately to any security threats from any of these unlawful secret cult groups.
“The command hereby urges all and sundry to go about their lawful businesses as the police will not give any breathing space to these unscrupulous elements to create chaos or breach of peace in any part of the state.
“The commissioner of Police therefore warns any individual or groups and also advised parents to sternly warn their children/wards who are bent on causing mayhem on the 7/7/2020 and 8/8/2020.
“They should desist from such planned dastardly acts or change their ways and refrain from testing the will and capacity of the police/security agencies in Oyo State to respond adequately and deal decisively with any threat to peace and order in the state.”
