Oyo state police command has commenced investigation into the murder of a 5-year-old boy by unknown assailants who smashed the head of the boy with shovel at Moniya, Ibadan in Akinyele Local Government area of Oyo state.
Yesterday, the killing of a five year old boy, Mojeeb Tirimisiyu heightened fears and panic in the entire state on cases of ritual killings.
The Oyo state Commissioner of Police, Mr Joseph Nwachukwu Enwonwu, who recently took over the mantle of leadership in the command , said investigation into unfortunate killing of five year old Mojeeb Tirimisiyu has commenced to unravel those behind the dastardly act.
In a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO), Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, a Superintendent of Police (SP), and made available to newsmen on Monday night assured the public that the killers of young Mojeeb would be fished out in no time as full investigation has commenced.
The statement reads in part ”At about 2pm of 22/06/2020, at Olorunsogo Area of Tose, Moniya, Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, one Mojeeb Tirimisiyu ‘m’ aged 5yrs.
”While defecating in a nearby bush close to the backyard of his parents house was attacked with a shovel on his head and sustained a serious injury. He died later as a result of injury sustained and corpse deposited in an hospital.
”Investigation has since commenced while concerted efforts intensified to track this hoodlum that has been carrying out this heinous crime.”
In a bid to unearth facts behind the spate of ritual killings, the new state Commissioner of Police , Mr Nwachukwu Enwonwu, two weeks ago told the public that he is relocating his office to Akinyele Local Government, the epicenter of ritual killings in the state. Within few weeks, several reported cases marred Akinyele including the killing of Azeezat Somuyiwa (29), Barakat Bello (18), and Ms. Grace Oshiagwu (21), a National Diploma student of Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki .
