As the Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has fixed October 21st for the commencement of its congresses, party members have been warned against convening party’s meeting at state level without the approval of the appropriate authority of the party.
The state’s caretaker chairman of the party, Hon. Tunde Akogun, who stated this at the executive meeting held at the Premier Hotel, Ibadan, threatened that whoever goes against the party rules will be sanctioned.
Saying that congresses will be held at the ward, local and state levels, he explained that the development would help the elected members of the party to take part in the forthcoming national congress.
Akogun vowed to do everything possible to have a viable and active party acceptable to the masses, adding that the party glory will be restored even with the limited time he has.
In repositioning the party, he promised to deal with members in an atmosphere that is free, fair and transparent.
He said, “Let me warn that on no account should anyone convoke a PDP meeting at the state level without my approval as any such person (s) will be sanctioned.
“If we observe the disenchantment caused by recent avoidable controversies in the state, the chances of a united and virile PDP to win subsequent elections in Oyo State is very bright. On our part, the secretary and I will do everything possible to have a viable and active party which will be acceptable to the masses that will restore our lost glory even within this very limited time. We will ensure a free , fair, transparent and conducive atmosphere to all members in order to reposition our great party for victory.”
Among the party stalwart at the meeting were former Secretary to the State Government, Sharafadeen Alli, Ayo Adeseun, Jumoke Akinjide, Seyi Makinde and Femi Babalola.
Others are Gbenga Babalola, Femi Lanlehin, Wole Oyelese, Mulikat Adeola Akande, Muraina Ajibola, Yemi Aderibigbe, Isiaka Adeola, Dotun Oyelade and Kehinde Ayoola.
