The Oyo State lawmaker representing Ibadan North Constituency II, Hon. Adebayo Babajide joined market women at his constituency during Thursday’s weekly market sanitation exercise.
Describing his participation as his efforts towards ensuring a disease free environment for his people, which will subsequently improve their well being, Adebayo noted that the best way to make people do the right thing is to lead by example.
The markets which were cleaned up by the lawmaker in company of the Oyo State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Kehinde Ayoola, market leaders and other stakeholders in the State includes- the popular Bodija and Sango markets, which are both within the Ibadan state constituency II.
While distributing over 2000 waste bags to market women and men, Adebayo admonished them to always avoid indiscriminate disposal of waste into drainages, waterways or roads.
He said, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness. We have to decent and more conscious while disposing wastes generated from our day to day market activities, in order to prevent diseases and contaminating viruses away from our environment.
“We are doing everything possible as Oyo State government led by Governor Seyi Makinde in provision of infrastructures and maintaining the existing one, therefore, we appeal to our people to let drainages and waterway serve their primary purposes.
“When we clean our environment and dispose our waste decently, our children and mothers will have less health complications, and the healthcare facilities within the State can function effectively.”
The Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Kehinde Ayoola in his words applauded the market women for there huge turnout for the weekly sanitation activities.
Describing the lawmaker efforts towards making his people’s environment clean and healthy as a laudable contribution to humanity, Ayoola appealed to the people not to relent in supporting the PDP led Oyo State administration.
