The Oyo state government through the Oyo State Housing Corporation has started move to resuscitate the 21 Housing Estates in the state.
This was made known by the Chairman of the Corporation, Barrister Bayo Lawal, on Tuesday during a tour to the Housing Estates across the state.
Speaking during the visit, Bayo Lawal said urgent steps must be taken to resuscitate the estates for the benefit of the people of Oyo state. He also stressed the need for the focus on Housing Estates in Oke Ogun saying none of the Housing Estates in Oke Ogun is currently in use.
He said “We are here today just to check the situation. And we found out that urgent steps must be taken to resuscitate this project. This is a housing scheme of Oyo state. Apart from Ibadan, perhaps Ogbomoso and Oyo, there is not any other community that has functional housing scheme.
“As the chairman of the Oyo Housing Corporation, I intend to resuscitate all our Housing Estates. So that those Estates will be beneficiary to various committees. Not only in this Kishi community, we have been to Igbeti, we are going to Igboho, Saki, Ago Aare, Okaka. We are going to iseyin, also in Oke Ogun here.
“So that gradually, we want to build up Housing Estates for the benefit of our people. We have over concentrated Housing Estates in Ibadan. Now it’s time to spread out. That’s the whole essence of me traveling to all Local government areas that we have estates. So, it’s good that we are all here. It’s good that we have all witnessed what has happened to this estate which was initiated some 35, 40 years ago. And it is good that under the present administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, we are going to resuscitate most of our estates particularly in this community.
“You can take for granted that this is a government born out of popularity of our governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde and he is doing very fantastically well. If not the best governor in Nigeria, he is one of the very best. Obviously, he’s doing well. He will do this first term and second term, that is provided by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. So, the government is continuing, the projects should be continuing and also you must commend Governor Seyi Makinde because most of the abandoned projects that were started by previous administrations are being completed by this present administration. So we hope that we will start and continue and complete the project.”
The Housing Estates visited are Oyo State Housing Corporation Estates Ojogbondu and Atiba in Oyo zone, Oyo State Housing Corporation Estate, Ajilete in Ogbomoso zone, Oyo State Housing Corporation Estates, Kishi, Igbeti, Igboho and Saki in Oke Ogun zone.
In a related development, the caretaker chairmen of Atiba LGA, Hon Ibrahim Sulaiman Akinkunmi Ogbomoso Central LCDA, Hon Seun Adeyinka, Oorelope LG, Mr Yaqub Ganiyu Tasoolo, Saki West LG, Hon Mudathir Busari Oruobodo and others have pledged their support to the Oyo State Housing Corporation in their move to resuscitate the Housing Estates in their various local government areas.
The caretaker chairmen, while speaking differently in their various local government areas said they will support the Housing Corporation to evacuate whoever encroached their land in their local government.
They decried also wholeheartedly welcomed the development saying it’s better to put the land into use rather than abandoning.
