The Oyo State Government said renovation work would soon commence on the state-owned Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba area of Ibadan, insideoyo.com has gathered.
THE PUNCH had exclusively reported late last year that the swimming pool portion of the stadium had been taken over weeds and reptiles due to neglect after it was completed half way.
Apart from the swimming pool, other sections of the stadium beg for attention. In an interview with our correspondent in Ibadan on Wednesday, the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Abayomi Oke, said contractor that would handle the renovation would move in at the appropriate key time.
He said, “Contract for the repair of the main bowl, the dressing room and others had been awarded by the state government. The AstroTurf and the tracks will have to be rehabilitated to improve on its outlook.
“We are also considering public-private partnership arrangement to rehabilitate the swimming pool.
“The National League has just started and Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan use the stadium as their base. We will consider this factor. As soon as the contractor is mobilised, he will move in his equipment and decide when to start bearing in mind the league matches.”
