The senator representing Oyo North Senatorial District, Dr. Abdulfatai Buhari, has declared that zoning of governorship ticket to a particular senatorial district in Oyo state is not in the constitution of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Buhari, who represents Oke-Ogun and Ogbomoso regions, while speaking on Saturday in Ibadan, during a live radio program on Fresh FM tagged “Political Circuit” insisted that the clamour for governorship ticket to be zoned to a particular senatorial district in the state will not be in the interest of the party
Recall that there have been numerous agitations for the zoning of the ruling party’s governorship ticket to Oke Ogun area of Oyo state where Buhari represents. Insideoyo.com gathered that Buhari is one of the governorship aspirants under the APC but hails from Ogbomoso.
Buhari, who doubles as Chairman, Senate Committee on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Cybercrime while stressing that he believed in the party supremacy, added that the decision of his party would always be binding on him.
Daily Post quoted Buhari saying “Clamour for zoning of the governorship ticket to a particular senatorial district of the state is unconstitutional. The best candidate should be allowed to do the job.”
He, however, advised leaders of the party to carefully create level-playing ground for interested aspirants from all the zones, saying “this will allow credible candidate to emerge.
Speaking further, he said his wealth of political experience and academic feat were part of many things that qualified him for the job of the number citizen in the state.
He also noted that the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has raised the bar of governance in the state to a high level, warning that the state should not be allowed to deteriorate again as a result of bad leadership.
