A Nigerian Professor of Animal Physiology and former Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof. David Olusoji Adejumo has officially joined the gubernatorial race under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Prof. Adejumo made his intention known when he visited the party’s state Chairman, Chief Akin Oke at the secretariat of the party at Oke Ado, on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in Ibadan, the state capital.
He said if he becomes the governor, no external farmer will bring in herds into the state without a licence approved by the law.
Adejumo, the governorship hopeful, stressed “the issue of national cattle herding transformation is good, but the framework must be transparent and publicly presented to the citizenry for appraisal and consent”.
In his official declaration message, a copy which was made available to insideoyo.com, he listed some of his focus areas. These are;
1. Education
He said under his watch education will witness completely new era as he intend to wean Oyo state from the retrogressive national curriculum that is moribund and outdated.
Teacher development will no longer focus on routine “core subjects” but on pedagogical skills that will aid learning especially in technology and the arts.
Programmes like VOLUNTARY SCHOOL MARSHALLS, UNIFIED EXAMINATIONS will be introduced.
2. On Economy
He said he will raise the bar for state revenue targets by implementing the following strategies through rigorous and careful fiscal priorities, strengthening of revenue collection agencies with IT and competent staff to prevent wastages among others.
Other areas are road transportation, agriculture, infrastructural development, health care policy and others.
