The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, yesterday stressed the need for traditional rulers in the country to collaborate in order to tackle the security challenges facing the country.
He spoke at his palace yesterday while receiving other Yoruba traditional rulers who paid him homage at his Popoyemoja, Ibadan.
He noted that monarchs are the closest to the grassroots who know where the shoe pinches.
This is coming as Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III will convene a meeting of Yoruba Leaders of Thought to deliberate on the spate of insecurity in the region.
The meeting, slated for Thursday, June 27, 2019, will hold at the International Conference Centre in Ibadan, Oyo State. The event is being coordinated by Dr. Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosumu, daughter of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and Nigeria’s former Ambassador to the Netherlands.
Awolowo-Dosumu said the meeting will “deliberate on the appropriate response to the current menace of killer herders, kidnappers and sundry criminals currently ravaging Yorubaland.”
