Oyo state governor, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi has described the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji as his father, saying the two of them cannot fight over the chieftaincy title struggle in the state.
Ajimobi stated this on Sunday when he appeared on a political programme, Roadmap 2019, on Channels Television.
When asked over seemingly disagreement between him and the Olubadan, he said: “He is like a father to me, he made me the Aare of Ibadan of Ibadanland, the fifth in the history of Ibadanland. We can never quarrel, we cannot fight.”

“What I did and I will continue to do is to modernise the traditional institution.
“Why should Ibadan only have one Obas, Name one town, important Yoruba town with only one Oba? Name it,” Governor Abiola queried.
He said there were political undertone to the matter and that one of those in line to the Olubadan throne (his predecessor) thought he was targetted at the new law and turn things upside.

“One of them felt uncomfortable, except for him and the Olubadan, all other High chiefs agreed with us.”
Ajimobi said he is an elder in his capacity as well, saying he is the current oldest governor in Nigeria and will turn 69 by the end of the year.
