The executive chairman of Olorunsogo local government area of Oyo state, Hon. Qozeem Olayanju, has begun the renovation of the Community Television Viewing Centre in Igbeti.
The Television Viewing Centre was built by the first executive chairman of Olorunsogo LG under the administration of Hon. Bello Azeez, and commissioned by Compol Amen Edore Oyakhire (Psc) on 19th of October 1998.
Despite being built for community use, the Igbeti Television Viewing Centre has been dilapidated due to neglect and lack of maintenance.
The building, in the past years, had served many purposes for the community’s different groups, schools, and associations, among others.
Hon. Olayanju, in his effort to restore social activities as promised during his campaign in Olorunsogo, the local government approved the total renovation of the building as well as installation of modern gadgets in the centre for the use of the residents.
According to Olayanju, he said part of his promise during his electioneering campaign was to continuously engage the youth, describing the initiative as a way of bringing back the community television viewing center to live, creating a more social life for the people, especially the youth.
Olayanju said: “The building was built 26 years ago; it was a social event center for our people, but it failed to serve its purpose years later. At present there is no working satellite, no single electronics, no single projection devices, poor electrical source, and no modern furniture.
“I made the promise during the election campaign that I will make life meaningful for our people, so I see bringing back to life our community Television Viewing Centre as a good project for my people.
“We have approved the renovation; this will include the installation of modern gadgets for the use of our people,” Olayanju said.
