Shooting Stars moved a bit further in its quest to swim out of relegation waters by beating hard fighting Katsina United 1-0, on Sunday evening at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
It was one of the week 29 games of the Nigerian Professional Football League, (NPFL).
Wasiu Jimoh had converted a free kick just outside the box but the shot was too much for impressive goalkeeper Paul Dami who failed to hold firmly before it dropped into the net on 44′.
The goal was a reward for Shooting Stars attacking intent since the kick when the Ajani Ibrahim, Abu Azees and Wasiu Jimoh were probing the Katsina United defence with ease but for the superlative form of goalkeeper Danjuma Paul Dami.
Before it, the visitors had risen to the occasion with the compact play right from the kick off.
They held their own from the midfield with and surged forward at intervals with their attacking trio of Ibrahim Suleiman, Abdukarem Ahmed and Faisal Sanni, doting on 3SC’s defence line.
But it was Wasiu Jimoh goal that settled the balanced game even with more unconverted chances in the second half by both clubsides.
By implications, Shooting Stars move three steps out of relegation with 36 points from 29 matches in 15th position.
Katsina United remained rooted in 12th position on the log after 29 games with 38 points.
In his reaction to www.3sc.com.ng the head coach of Katsina United, Baldwin Bazuaye praised his boys for giving a good fight despite the loss. ” We lost to a better side, Shooting Stars deserved to win but kudos my players for 120% resistance”, he concludes.
For Edith Agoye of the Shooting Stars, “the victory means so much to us and we must keep working hard for the remaining games”, he sums it up.
Meanwhile, Shooting Stars next game is on Wednesday against South West brothers, Remo Stars in Shagamu in a week 30 pairing.
