Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has described the latest criticism by the Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation over streetlights and the Lekan Salami Sports Complex as desperation, distortion and struggle for relevance.
The Governor, in a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Seyi Makinde, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, on Friday, said no amount of manufactured outrage can change the steady delivery of governance in the state.
On streetlights, the statement said the Makinde administration will never apologise for keeping Oyo State illuminated and secure, adding that generators are being used because the APC-led Federal Government, Senator Alli’s party, has failed to deliver regular electricity supply.
“If the national grid were reliable, there would be absolutely no need for diesel-powered generators,” the statement said.
It said instead of attacking the state government, Alli should confront his party’s failure in the power sector, noting that Oyo State has built a 5MW solar plant now being upgraded to 12MW as a sustainable solution.
On the Lekan Salami Stadium, the government said the renovation has achieved what previous administrations could not, citing the hosting of international matches including the Falconets vs Senegal fixture in February 2026.
It said the temporary pause in Shooting Stars’ international matches at the stadium is due to further upgrades to meet evolving international standards, describing it as progress.
The statement also said Senator Alli’s attack on the governor stems from Makinde’s factual description of him as a jejune lawyer, adding that Makinde is a distinguished engineer with decades of experience and Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the highest honour by the NSE.
“While some politicians specialise in shouting, this administration specialises in results,” the statement added, stressing that Oyo State will continue to move forward.
