As Nigeria Celebrates Democracy day, the Oyo state Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde has been applauded for redefining the true essence of democratic governance in the last two years of his administration, guaranteeing a steady development and repositioning the state to reclaim its place of pride in the comity of States.
This was contained in a Democracy day message by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Intergovernmental Affairs and Northern States liaison, Hon. Dooshima Aneh (JP) who equally applauded the Oyo state helmsman for creating a viable state where any tribe can be placed in government solely for competency and merit. The statement read: “ Democracy Day celebration in the face of the myriads of challenges facing the country is for Saying No to rascality in Governance. What we are witnessing today at the center is utter disregard for true tenets of democracy but luckily, Oyo state is blessed with a man who seems not to be deterred in his relentless quest to build a legacy of strengthening democratic institutions within the state, ultimately reflecting in the disposition of the Governor on critical issues such as religion and ethnicity which has hitherto, divided the nation along parallel lines. Seyi Makinde has become a rallying point for all ethnic groups giving equal opportunities to all residents capable of making meaningful contributions to the advancement of the state.”
Hon. Dooshima described the litany of projects executed during the first two years of His tenure and particularly, the newly reconstructed Moniya-Iseyin road, recently commissioned by Benue State Governor Dr. Samuel Ortom, as a prelude to bigger, better and more prosperous Oyo state under the stewardship of the Governor. “Democratic governments all over the world prioritize the wellbeing of the citizens, making visible efforts to be at the heart of the needs of the people. Makinde has clearly demonstrated that awareness through his famed four pillars Education, Health, Security and expansion of the Economy through Improved food chain. The Governor has performed wonderfully well in there spheres and beyond, with all residents of Oyo state feeling the impact and presence of Government in their domains.
The special adviser urged political office holders to emulate the Governance virtues of Makinde to justify the heavy prize paid by the June12 struggle. Democracy day celebration is moved to June 12 in honor of the annulled 1993 presidential election, purportedly won by then Late Chief MKO Abiola.
