The Forum of Local Government Chairmen in Oyo State has declared that Governor Seyi Makinde possesses the leadership capacity and vision needed to reposition Nigeria and steer the country towards greater development.

The chairmen stated this following Makinde’s official declaration on Thursday to contest the presidency, with the governor saying he had decided to embark on a movement aimed at resetting Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking on behalf of the forum, the council bosses’ chairman, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, and Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo said Makinde’s decision to seek the nation’s highest office was motivated by his desire to address what they described as lopsided governance, poor performance, and leadership failure under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The chairmen noted that the current state of the country requires a leader with proven administrative competence, grassroots connection, and commitment to the welfare of the people.

According to them, although Nigeria has witnessed difficult times in recent years, citizens should not lose hope but rather unite behind a credible leadership capable of restoring confidence in governance and democracy.

They described Makinde as a politician with the pedigree, experience, and human-centred leadership qualities necessary to return democratic dividends to the masses and promote inclusive governance across the country.

The forum further called on Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora to support Makinde’s presidential ambition, expressing confidence that his emergence as president would help transform Nigeria into a nation that meets the aspirations of its people.

They maintained that the governor’s achievements in Oyo State, particularly in infrastructure, economic reforms, and people-oriented programmes, have demonstrated his readiness for higher national responsibility
