This is just as all political parties participating in the council poll signed  peace accord with the police to conduct themselves in line with the guidelines of the election.

The Peace accord meeting with leaders of all political parties in the state was facilitated by the state Police Command in conjunction with the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission.

Addressing the party leaders and other stakeholders, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ngozi Onadeko says the poll should not be seen as a do or die affairs but as an attempt to improve the quality of life especially at the grassroots.

She cautioned politicians in the state against vices that could truncate the existing peaceful atmosphere warning that violators of the electoral guidelines would be dealt with in line with the provisions of the law.

The Commissioner of Police assured residents of the determination of the command to ensure safety of the electorate before, during and after the poll.

The Chairman, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Isiaka Olagunju said the commission is poised to conduct credible council poll devoid of rancour and violence.

He solicited the support of politicians, electorate and other stakeholders for the success of the election saying all hands must be on the deck towards ensuring peace in the state.

Recall that the last time council polls held in the state was 2018, at the twilight of the second tern tenure of late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

Until recently, the council had been ran by caretaker council boss appointed by Governor Seyi Makinde who on the day of his inauguration on May 29, 2019 sacked the all APC led council bosses across the 33 local government and 35 local council development areas of the state.

According to plans, today’s election will only hold in the 33 local government areas while excluding the 35 LCDAs in the state.
